Wireless Internet Service

Wabash County REMC has partnered with Omnicity, Inc. to form a new enterprise called Wabash County REMC Internet. The partnership will provide high-speed wireless internet service to members and non-members throughout Wabash County. With over 50% of all homes connected to the internet, more and more people are searching for cost-effective ways to get high-speed internet service.

For some living within the cities of Wabash and N. Manchester, high-speed internet is available from DSL and cable TV operators; however their rate of $40 or more per month is much higher than the $32.95 per month wireless REMC internet service now being offered. More importantly, the DSL and cable internet service is limited to the cities. The rural resident has fewer choices; in fact the only choice up to this time has been to install a satellite internet system. Such systems require a $700-$800 up-front equipment purchase, plus a fee of around $40 per month. In addition, satellite systems require a phone line for up-loading information, thus the high-speed is only for down-loading information. The need to communicate up-loading information by telephone still causes the phone line to be tied-up.

New technology from Wabash County REMC Internet is a totally wire-less system which provides low-cost high-speed internet service. The advantages to this internet service include:
Totally wire-less connection
High-speed internet service
Low monthly cost
No phone line needed
Not affected by inclement weather
No dial-up, can be on all the time
Available to all Wabash County residents

The REMC internet service is truly high-speed. The basic service is 256k bandwidth, at a cost of $32.95 per month plus a one-time $149 installation charge. This fee includes the rental cost of the receiver/modem inside your home. Your high-speed service begins when you connect the receiver/modem to the computer. Automatically the computer recognizes the modem is there and begins communicating with the REMC internet towers. For power users or businesses requiring greater bandwidth, we offer connection speeds at up to 1MB.

The REMC Internet service is different. Not only is it high-speed, it’s totally wire-less. No longer will you tie up your phone line when surfing the internet. In fact, the wireless system can be on all the time. The system works by receiving and sending a radio signal from your computer to our transmitter located high on a tower.

Your REMC has recently expanded the coverage area to include the  La Fontaine, Roann and Richvalley areas. Now, in addition to serving in and several miles around Lagro, Wabash and North Manchester, we now offer service to the LaFontaine, Roann, and Richvalley areas.

After more than 300 installations, we have found that not all homes will be able to receive the internet signal. During the installation process, Omnicity will test the signal strength.  If the signal strength is good, they will bill you a one-time $149 installation charge. After which the monthly fee is $32.95 for high speed internet service.

It’s important to note the REMC Internet service is available to all residents in Wabash County. Membership in Wabash County REMC is not required to take part in this new service. As long as you can receive the signal, high-speed internet service is available to you.

Sign up is easy. Just call Omnicity @ 1-877-477-7873, or click here to link to an online signup form.. When you call, they will ask for your location. If you live in the area of coverage, they will sign you up over the phone. The one-time $149 installation charge installation fee includes professional installation of the modem and any required software change. Once they have connected you to the system, you’re ready to surf 24/7.
